Add Your Cell Phone to Yorba Linda’s Emergency Aalert

Orange County News

On Tuesday, September 24, 2013, nearly two million Orange County residents will receive a call at 10:00am to test the County’s regional mass
notification system known as AlertOC.

The City of Yorba Linda continues to utilize AlertOC, specifically to keep Yorba Linda residents and businesses informed of important information during emergency events. Yorba Linda residents are encouraged to self-register their cell phone numbers and other alternate numbers to be a part of the regional test. This regional test, in conjunction with Emergency Preparedness Month, will replicate a large scale, multi-jurisdictional emergency requiring thousands of numbers to be called
simultaneously across Orange County’s entire region.

The key feature of AlertOC is the ability for residents to register more than one contact method at a specific address. Registrations of cell phone
and alternate numbers increase the potential of reaching the greatest number of community members as rapidly as possible. This enables landlines, cell phones, text messages, and e-mail addresses to be incorporated into a single notification system. Residents can register for AlertOC via the City’s website or can download the new Smart phone app available for iPhone and Android phones.

Smartphone users can find the app by searching “Blackboard MyConnect” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
